Escondido Ductless Mini Split AC Installation & Repair

Enjoy reliable cooling without the ductwork! Call us today for mini split AC services. We’ve served all of San Diego County since 1999.

What do you think of when you hear the term “ductless system”? A space heater? A window air conditioning unit? If so, then we have some exciting information to share with you. A ductless system, otherwise known as a ductless mini split, is actually a whole-house HVAC system. Additionally, these systems are capable of both heating and cooling a house. Sound too good to be true? We’re happy to explain how it is that these systems work.

Before we do, though, we want to remind you that even systems that are designed to maximize user experience, efficiency, and convenience can and will fall short if not properly installed and serviced. That is why we urge you to schedule your ductless system services in Escondido, CA, with a member of our team. Excel Services is and has been family-owned and operated since 1999, and we excel where others fail. Contact us if you think that going ductless is right for you.

Going ductless can improve your indoor air quality—explore more ways to breathe easier with our indoor air quality services.

Ductless Heating and Ductless Air Conditioning, Combined!

To understand how it is that a ductless mini split can offer both heating and cooling, you need to know how a heat pump works. Heat pump systems work on the same heat transfer principle but don’t use a centralized ductwork system the way that a traditional air-source heat pump does. Instead, individual blowers are installed throughout the house.

In the summer, these indoor units evaporate refrigerants to draw heat out of the air. That cooled air is cycled back into the house while the hot refrigerant is pumped out to the condenser unit. There, its heat is shed via the condenser coils, and it is cycled back through the system to repeat the process.

This is, with the exception of the wall-mounted blowers, the same way that a central AC works. Heat pump technology allows for the reversal of this heat transfer cycle, though. That means that, in the winter, the refrigerant will travel in the opposite direction. The outdoor unit now draws heat out of the air outside, the refrigerant is compressed to boost its thermal energy, and that heat is used to warm air in your home at the blowers.

Benefits of Ductless Heating and Air Conditioning

Ductless mini splits offer a lot of benefits, the most obvious being the incredible convenience of having a heating and cooling system in one. The other major benefit is the fact this method of heating is incredibly efficient and particularly well suited to mild winters like ours. Plus, the system can be installed with minimal disruption to existing properties and in those that cannot really accommodate full ductwork systems.

Because the individual blowers are all controlled independently of one another, you can also maintain different temperatures in different areas of the house. You won’t have to worry about leaky ductwork wasting energy, either, or allowing pollutants into the system. This helps to boost energy efficiency while protecting your indoor air quality.

No matter what heating and cooling system you opt for, maximize its performance—don’t forget to schedule maintenance at least once a year.

Ducted Mini Split Systems and Hybrid Systems

If your home already has the infrastructure for a central HVAC system, you could save on your energy bills by installing a ducted mini split system.

This option takes advantage of your existing ducts in shorter runs than a central system to let you enjoy the benefits of a mini split system that is less visible than a wall-mounted model. Ducted mini split systems allow you to control the heating and cooling in each room independently, are quieter than central systems, and reduce air leakage and debris buildup in your ducts.

Hybrid systems combine electric heat pumps with a gas furnace to combine the benefits of both options in your home. While the installation is a bigger investment than other systems, a hybrid heating and cooling system will minimize your energy bills by automatically switching to the most efficient system depending on your home’s needs. Your system will use the electric heat pump and supplement it with a natural gas heater or variable-speed fan when extreme temperatures require more powerful solutions.

Let Us Install and Service Your Ductless Mini Split in Escondido

The explanation of a ductless mini split system above is obviously a very condensed version of what is still a relatively complex whole-house comfort system. That means that you can’t simply install a system like this on your own, nor can you entrust your ductless system repairs and/or maintenance to a neighborhood handyman or woman.

Our technicians have NATE and EPA certifications. That means they have the knowledge and experience to help you get the most from your ductless mini split system.
